Artist's Statement: I love birds, particularly crows and ravens. I was watching one strut in front of my house one day, thinking how much she looked fully in control. She was clearly in charge of the birds around her and they were having quite the conversation. Like many leaders, though, she was a bit aloof, so I painted her as a solitary figure against the greenery. I was also experimenting with painstaking-to-apply-but-ultimately-rewarding gold leaf.
