Vernon Subutex 2Vernon Subutex 2

"Vernon Subutex is still on the streets. Hanging around with alcohol-soaked Charles in the Parc de Buttes Chaumont, feverish and hallucinating, he is completely cut off from the wider world and unaware that he is the subject of a frantic search by a crowd of hunters hot on the trail of the last recordings of the famous dead musician, Alex Bleach. But just imagine that one of these hunters finally gets hold of the precious tapes. What might they contain? The answer could have shocking--almost apocalyptic--consequences."--
"Rock stars are trouble, even when they're dead. Alex Bleach might have done himself in with booze and sleeping pills, but his secrets survive him in an explosive final video interview, the tapes of which remain in the possession of one Vernon Subutex. A former record shop proprietor turned homeless wreck, Vernon was last seen feverish and hallucinating on a city bench... On Vernon's trail are lovers and killers, addicts and agents, movie producers and social media influencers, all of whom stand to gain from airing--or destroying--the tapes. But as they close in on their quarry, they witness a strange transformation taking place. Vernon is becoming a grungy guru: there's something hypnotic about his DJ'ing skills, and from the ranks of strangers and pursuers alike, a quasi-mystical cult begins to form. Can things be looking up for our hero? As the second volume of Virginie Despentes's acclaimed trilogy Vernon Subutex careens toward an apocalyptic finale, only one thing is certain: when Alex Bleach's terrible confession gets out, it won't be just the guilty who suffer." -- Back cover
