Taylor Jenkins Reid's characters really work their way into your heart. After completing her books you actually feel a sense of loss. While 'Malibu Rising' is termed by some as a light read, it actually explores the emotions churned up by parental abandonment and how that can shape one's character. Families can be infuriating, messy, loving, and blindly obstinate, qualities displayed by each of the Riva clan. And really, this is a party that I wish I had known about.... I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as I did 'Daisy Jones and the Six.' Ms. Reid has moved into my favorites column.
