Beverly Jenkins is the queen of Black historical romance, and it shines through in this book. It is refreshing to read about more regular people than always gentry, and setting the book around when slaves were emancipated is very interesting as a setting. I learnes a great deal from the setting, and of course, it gets you thinking about whether things have indeed changed much..... At any rate, a good little read that cracks along with believable characters. This is worth your time!
