The first adventure of this NEW YORK TIMES best-selling porcine wonder is now available as an e-book. (Ages 6 - 8)

Features an audio read-along! To Mr. and Mrs. Watson, Mercy is not just a pig – she's a porcine wonder. And to the portly and good-natured Mercy, the Watsons are an excellent source of buttered toast, not to mention that buttery-toasty feeling she gets when she snuggles into bed with them. This is not, however, so good for the Watsons' bed. BOOM! CRACK! As the bed and its occupants slowly sink through the floor, Mercy escapes in a flash – "to alert the fire department," her owners assure themselves. But could Mercy possibly have another emergency in mind – like a sudden craving for their neighbors' sugar cookies? Welcome to the wry and endearing world of Mercy Watson – an ebullient new character for early chapter-book readers in a series that's destined to be a classic.

A cute and charming early chapter book, Mercy Watson to the Rescue is the first in a series. The story is silly, but good-hearted and full of fun. Mercy is a pig and she lives with Mr. and Mrs. Watson. She's not an ordinary pig, though, she's a porcine wonder. The story has a nice, goofy sense of humour. The lavish, colourful illustrations are delightful. Highly recommended for readers of early chapter books.

'Mercy Watson' is a series of chapter books (with pictures) written by Kate DiCamillo and illustrated by Chris Van Dusen. Mercy Watson is the name of the fictional pig who stars in the series. In 'Mercy Watson To The Rescue', the Mr. and Mrs. Watson need rescuing when their bed (after Mercy hops on) begins to slowly sink through the floor. Mercy goes to alert the fire department about this problem. But he has another emergency in mind... a sudden craving for their neighbors’ sugar cookies! This book is so cute and fun to read. The reading level is low and the pictures are helpful for beginner readers. I give it a 4/5 and recommend this book to kids ages 5+ who are looking for their first chapter book series. @GymGirl of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

Kate DiCamillo hits it out of the park with this new series about Mercy Watson, the porcine wonder. Her people genuinely love her and feed her lots of her favorite food -- toast with a great deal of butter. The next door neighbors are not so enthusiastic which lends a comedic element to our story. The illustrations by Chris Van Dusen are beautifully rendered and complement the story in a delightful way. New readers will feel a sense of accomplishment after finishing this toasty tale.

Cute just-above-easy reader. Fun story line engages my child and keeps me from being bored to tears. Lots of unrealistic scenarios to keep the child's brain working, even once the decoding is complete. One criticism: not all the words follow basic decoding rules (for example, a character in this series has a French last name, complete with a silent final "t"). Not a deal breaker, just means the kids might need some support while reading. Love this series. Good find, Gwinnett County Library!

A good first chapter book for children --but why all white characters?

Mercy Watson, a pig, is relied up to save the day! Which she does...accidentally.

Cute and silly, a good beginning level chapter book for a child reading on their own. Lots of speech and punctuation to negotiate, but otherwise a very accessible read.

For ages 6-8. Boom! Crack! That’s what Mr. and Mrs. Watson hear when they allow Mercy the pig into their bed. Mercy, you see, is like one of the family to them.
