Docent Lecture: Dressed to Thrill--Fashion in Art at the Legion of Honor

6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Description

It’s often said that you can’t judge a book by its cover. But can a person’s clothing tell us something about who they are, or the world they lived in? This informative and entertaining talk explores the fashions seen in the vast collections of the Legion of Honor. Learn how revolution, religion, and politics have shaped the way people dress. From ancient Greece to the court of Versailles, this presentation gives you a front row seat at a fashion show 2000 years in the making.

This online program will be presented by Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco docent Mike Madrid, and is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Corte Madera Library.

Mike Madrid has been a docent at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco since 2019. He was an advertising and marketing executive for more than twenty years, specializing in global fashion brands. Mike is the author of The Supergirls: Fashion, Feminism, Fantasy, and the History of Comic Book Heroines, which NPR named as one of their “Five Best Books to Share with A Friend”.
