For those who enjoy riddles and eerie visuals with their relationship advice. A solid follow up to the first Ask Baba Yaga book. I can just picture Baba glaring at me from atop her flying mortar and pestle, wondering if I'm worth her wisdom.

Bit is beautifully balanced indie horror movie, featuring a queer militant feminist vampire gang and a trans woman as final girl. Yay trans positive horror! Basically it reads as The Lost Boys if Kiefer Sutherland was a hot but equally psychopathic L.A. lesbian. Nicole Maines shines as protagonist Laurel who, while incredibly nihilistic due to the challenges of growing up as a trans woman, manages to put aside her obsessive eye-rolling to fight for the people and ideals she holds dear. There is a lot of tongue-in cheek humor in this movie. And while Duke can beat you over the head a bit with 3rd wave feminist philosophy and violent lashings against The Patriarchy, the story doesn't demonize its characters for who they are. In a world where all characters are shades of gray, good vamp vs bad vamp, the victor is determined by their actions.Bit is beautifully balanced indie horror movie, featuring a queer militant feminist vampire gang and a trans woman as final girl. Bronx, NYC born Juliet Milagros Palante finds herself in Portland, OR for an internship during the summer of 2003. She also finds herself coming out to her family, meeting her hero, questioning her hero, confronting heartbreak and racism, and seeking her own place within a feminist culture that is largely whitewashed. This book could also fittingly be called Juliet finds herself. This story is so beautifully human. It makes the reader question the world through Juliet's coming of age. A wonderful read for teens and adults across all spectrums.Bronx, NYC born Juliet Milagros Palante finds herself in Portland, OR for an internship during the summer of 2003. This book is one of those that will tug at your heartstrings, empower you, and expand your mind all in one go. Most of the essays are hard to get through, and they are meant to be. There are deeply personal accounts of abuse, trauma, and moving through an ableist world while dealing with disability. The poetry in these pieces is the magic that their authors glean out of the world either despite or because of their struggles. It teaches the reader that there is magic in everything. In joy and pain and struggle. So glad I read this. Also glad I had a mug of hot cocoa while reading. This book is one of those that will tug at your heartstrings, empower you, and expand your mind all in one go. The second book in Deborah Blake's Baba Yaga series, Wickedly Wonderful is on par with it's predecessor for action, adventure and romance. The series follows multiple women with the job title of Baba Yaga, that act as part healer, part supernatural cop, and part paranormal investigator. In this installment, we meet Beka Yancy, the West Coast Baba with power over the element of Water. Beka must solve the mystery of was is poisoning the local Merpeople and Selkies, while navigating romantic entanglements with a gruff grumpy fisherman and a dark prince. Enjoyable reading, though I wish this heroine would have found her empowerment much earlier in the story. And I like the cameo by the heroine of the last novel, Barbara Yager. The second book in Deborah Blake's Baba Yaga series, Wickedly Wonderful is on par with it's predecessor for action, adventure and romance. Queering the Tarot is a watershed work, both for tarot enthusiasts and for those who identify as pagan/wiccan/witchy and queer. For many of us, especially those of us who have ever felt relegated to the fringes, tarot has been a tool of comfort. A way to look at the world in a more nebulous and shifting fashion, contrary to the strict roles that society often imposes. But traditional interpretations of tarot are often very binary and gendered. And while the tarot community has become more inclusive, this book addresses these issues both directly, and with sensitivity to its audience. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in tarot!Queering the Tarot is a watershed work, both for tarot enthusiasts and for those who identify as pagan/wiccan/witchy and queer. I came to Caitlin Doughty's biography a bit backwards. I read her second book, "From Here to Eternity" first. Then I started watching her Youtube channel "Ask a Mortician". I only found out about her first book when a patron asked for it. I'm glad I did, though. This memoir is funny, quirkily morbid, and strangely uplifting. The result of a life questioning why we must be so afraid of death. I enjoyed it thoroughly.I came to Caitlin Doughty's biography a bit backwards.
